Spine Stimulator
Spine Stimulator (Internal)
An internal bone growth stimulator is sometimes implanted during a spinal fusion surgery. This device is quite small and is implanted in a soft pocket of tissue under the skin in the lower back to the side of spine. It delivers small electrical currents directly to the area in the spine where bone growth (the fusion) needs to occur.
An implanted stimulator may be used with or without any other devices related to the fusion, such as pedicle screws or a cage, and is unrelated to which technique a surgeon selects to for spinal fusion.
