Decompression

This surgical procedure is performed to alleviate pain caused by pinched nerves. In this procedure, a small portion of the bone next to the nerve root is removed to give the nerve root more space and provide a better healing environment. Pinched nerves in the spine can be caused by many factors including spinal stenosis or disc herniation. There are two types of decompression procedures - microdecompression and open decompression. Both procedures can usually be done with a minimum amount of post-operative discomfort and a high degree of success in alleviating low back and/or leg pain.
